Artistic Cap Design Bud Rose

Product Description

This set is one of the favorites in Chess Forma’s Artistic Designs category. Although the feature attraction for most chess sets is the Knight, mainly because it is the most detailed chess piece in any set, this set is quite different in that respect. The key attractions in this design are the other chess pieces! This chess set is a spin off from two very popular designs spanning from different eras in chess. The bishops, rooks, and pawns originate from the earlier Calvary Design or sometimes referred to as the Cap Design. The Calvary Design was the first chess set introduced to have all of its chess pieces having the appearance of wearing helmets, hence the name. Both of the kings and queens have influences stemming from the Pre-Staunton chess sets that were most popular during the early 1800s and was believed to have been the inspiration for the modern Staunton design. In addition, the kings, queens, and pawns all have subtle humanistic qualities but are less militant in appearance. The complete chess set comes with an extra pair of queens with leather bottoms. This set has a King height of 4 inches tall, is triple weighted, and has a base diameter of 1 ¾ inches. It is available in either bud rosewood or ebony wood. We highly recommend a chess board with 2.25 inch squares. This is quite ideal for those individuals looking for a chess set with unique qualities and retro appeal!
